Expectations of Social Studies/Religion Students

Text

The textbook and workbooks are distributed on the first day of class.  The textbook is a loan and must be covered on the first day.  Students must not write in the social studies book or damage it in any way.  At the end of the year if any book is returned in unacceptable condition, the student will be charged for a replacement.

Grading

Grading will occur on a variety of assignments including homework, journals, group work, quizzes,  tests, presentations and reports and being prepared for class (see classroom procedures).  Questions regarding grades are not to be asked during class time.  The grading scale is outlined in the Student Handbook.

Assignments

All assignments are due at the beginning of the period.  If not turned in, the sudent receives a "0".  If the student turns in the homework the next school day, they will receive 50% credit.  After the third missed/late assignment, the student will receive a detention.  If problems continue, parents will be contacted and a conference will be scheduled if necessary.

All assignments are posted on the side blackboard and are to be done in blue or black pen only.  Assignments done in pencil or colors other than blue/black will not be accepted.

Write legibly.  If I cannot read it, I will not accept it and it will have to be redone.

Correct heading is required on every assignment in the upper left hand corner.  Failure to do so will result in a lower grade.

If a student is absent, it is their responsibility to see me, before or after school, to make up any missed work.

Classroom Procedures

Be prepared; bring your books, notebooks, folder, loose leaf paper, and two pens to class every day unless mentioned otherwise.  Students will lose grade points for repeatedly going to their locker.  In addition, after repeated visits to a locker it will be inspected to see if it is organized and the student will clean it during recess.

There is no borrowing of supplies from other students. (I will loan materials.  After the 3rd time, the student will receive lunch/recess detention).

If there is an assignment on the blackboard, students are to begin it immediately.  If not, a student is to take out their textbook and wait for further instructions.
